Boards covered with a parchment leaf from a musical manuscript (traces of writing and notes). Smooth spine. Author's name and title in an early hand on the foot edge. Marbled pastedowns. A fine copy, slight spotting; minor loss to the lower outer corner of fol B3 and a small burnhole on the outer blank margin of fol. E1, in both cases without any loss of text. Marginal note on fol. B3r, probably in a seventeenth-century hand. An early shelfmark ‘H.V.20' on the recto of the rear flyleaf.

The second edition (of the first part only) of the Discorso by the philosopher from Cesena Iacopo Mazzoni (1548-1598), defending the Commedia against the Discorso nel quale si mostra l'imperfezzione della Commedia di Dante contro al ‘Dialogo delle lingue' del Varchi, written by a certain Ridolfo di Castravilla (the identity of the author is hitherto unidentified). The first edition of Mazzoni's Discorso had appeared in Bologna in 1572.
