The work, dedicated to the Tuscan prince Francesco de' Medici, is en effect a separate edition of the Inferno, supplemented with the extensive commentary by Buonanni. Albeit limited to a single cantica, it is the only edition of the Commedia to be published in Florence between 1506 and 1595.
