Woodcut medallion portrait of Dante, on fol. a4v. Three full-page woodcuts, designed by Pierre Vase (fols. a6v, p4v, E5v). Woodcut decorated and animated initials, mostly on black ground; headpieces. The title of each cantica within woodcut frame. Contemporary maroon morocco over pasteboards. Covers framed by blind and gilt fillets, and decorated with floral and foliate tools. Spine with four raised bands, compartmentes decorated with small floral tools. Gilt edges, with the inked early shelfmark ‘viiii'. A very good copy, slightly browned; a few small stains. On the front pastedown cutting taken from a French sale catalogue, describing the present copy (‘Elegante reliure, parfaitement conservée', and the pencilled note ‘Mars 1950 achat 11600-'). Bibliographical pencilled annotations on the rear pastedown.
