Smooth spine, with calligraphical title printed in red and black. Marbled pastedowns and flyleaves. Upper edge gilt. A copy in perfect condition, in a marbled slipcase.

Edition limited to 498 numbered copies, this is no. 363, one of the seventy-five printed on hand-made Arches paper. The Italian text of the Commedia is printed in red, the French translation by René A. Gutmann in black. The volume, finely illustrated by René Georges Hermann-Paul (1864-1940) opens with a preface by the Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938), who commends "la grandeur des marges, les espaces entre les lignes, la disposition des ornements, la sévère ordonnance des xylographies” (p. vi).
