Three volumes, 8° (193 x 139 mm). [32], xlviii, 513, [3]; 557, [3]; 299, [1], 160, [4] pages. Engraved printer's device on the title-page of the first volume. Two engravings in the first volume: a portrait of Dante engraved by the Flemish artist Michael Heylbrouck after Michelangelo da Cornale, and a map of Hell, according to Antonio Manetti' iconographical diagram. Woodcut decorated initials ans tailpieces. Original cardboards. Smooth spines with inked titles, traces of a paper label at the foot. A very good uncut copy, some leaves unopened. The title-page of the second volume slightly browned.

First edition - commnonly known as the Cominiana- of this important edition of the Commedia, and first appearence in print of the outstanding commentary by one of the best Dante scholars of the time, Giovanni Antonio Volpi (1686-1766). The second volume of the edition contains the Rimario by Carlo Noci, first published in Naples in 1602, and here corrected by Volpi.
