Illustrated with four plates, including three portrait of Dante, respectively from ms 1040 of Biblioteca Riccardiana in Florence, the map of Hell from ms Ital. 74 of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and two other portraits of the Florentine poet after Luca Signorelli and Raffaello. Original uniform bindings in blind- and gilt-tooled leather. Title in gilt lettering on the spine, edges gilt. A very fine copy.

The text of the Commedia was edited by Guido Biagi (1855-1925), and accompanied by the most authoritative commentaries, such as those by Jacopo Alighieri, Iacomo della Lana, the so-called Ottimo, Giovanni Boccaccio, Cristoforo Landino, Alessandro Vellutello, Lodovico Castelvetro, Lorenzo Magalotti, and more recently Pompeo Venturi, Baldassarre Lombardi, Antonio Cesari, Niccolò Tommaseo, and Raffaello Andreoli.
