16° (105 x 72 mm). Collation: A-Z8, Aa-Rr8. 608, [32] pages. Roman and italic type. Title-page within a woodcut border; woodcut printer's device on the title-page. Woodcut headpieces introducing each cantica, and the final tables. Late eighteenth-century green morocco over pasteboards. Covers within a gilt floral roll. Smooth spine, decorated with cross-fillets, author's name in gold on red morocco lettering-piece. Pastedowns and flyleaves in pale blue silk, boards edges decorated with narrow frieze, inside dentelles. In a green cardboard slipcase. A very fine copy, a few small, occasional stains; reading-marks in pale red pencil. On the title page the brown-inked note in an earlier hand ‘Libro rarissimo', on the verso ‘dirò meglio, edizione rarissima'.

Provenance: Alessandro Volpi (eigheenth-century (?) ownership inscription on the verso of the title-page); the physician and politician from Trieste Costantino Cumano (1811-1873; small oval stamp on the title page ‘Costantino Cumano. Trieste', and ownership inscription on the verso of the same leaf, '1854 ed ora legittima proprietà di Cost.o Cumano'; Livio Ambrogio collection.



Another copy of this exceedingly rare Vicenza edition, the rarestof the only three editions of the Commedia appeared in the seventeenth century, in a fine morocco binding.
