The editor of this volume, Enrichetta Capecelatro (1863-1941), born in Turin from a famous sicilian family, wife of the senator Riccardo Carafa Earl of Ruvo, was poetess, writer, translator and member of the Accademia Pontaniana. In addition to the accademic lectures and the translations of Tolstoj and Dostoevskij, she published numerous poems, a novel in French (Miettes 1906), a collection of fairy tales (1906), the Favole comuni e meravigliose (1918) and the novel Rovine di stelle (1928). In the preliminary to Giovan Battista Giuliani (1818-1884) she explained her initiative: “Non lasciate passare un giorno senza leggere Dante. – Questo consiglio io l'ho seguito: ma non basta; vorrei farlo seguire anche agli altri. Con tale intendimento ho compilato questo diario dantesco, ove ogni giorno ho posto un concetto tolto dalla divina commedia. Accanto ai versi del Sommo Poeta vi hanno spazi bianchi, che saranno riempiti dalle firme di persone amiche, come è uso in Inghilterra dove già sono introdotti simili libri, oppure accoglieranno note, pensieri o ricordi di date memorevoli” (fols. 3r-3v).
